Arnica for Back Pain

Arnica is a great post traumatic soft tissue healer of homeopathy. It works for any tissue injury or effect after injury even after several years. This is one of the most common homeo prescription form me.

My brother 58y/M had severe back pain while bending to lift laptop 2 weeks ago, he could not lift his left leg even 10 degree above bed. Pain was radiating along the left back to leg. It was typical acute disc prolapse case. He was 1700 Km away from me.
I asked him to take bed rest and take Arnica 200 immediately. He could not move out of the bed on day one. Next morning he could move to toilet and on day fifth he went to see a Neurologist. His leg raising on the left side became 30 degrees and pain was much better. 3 days later on day 9 he went for MRI and consulted orthopedic surgeon. Leg raising has improved to 60 degrees and there were no neurological deficit.
MRI showed minor multiple disc level bulges but not significant enough to cause severe back pain. He joined office on day 8th. There is residual back pain which is increasing on prolonged sitting but his recovery was remarkable.
He avoided all muscle relaxant and pain killer prescribed and 2nd day onward partially mobile.

I still remember my friend, who came from US and fell down from horse, he had back pain. After examination I gave him a dose of Arnica, even after his reluctance due to ignorance. Next day to my surprise his back pain was relieved, he was more excited due to his 3 years old ankle swelling and pain after fall also disappeared which doctors had told would nerver go.

Arnica is a first aid home remedy, every one should use immediately after any fall even trivial, sprain, and also after severe injury like head and spinal cord. It not only reduce pain which is a side effect but primarily helps healing of the soft tissue, tendon, bone and nerves.

2003 I slipped from a waterfall in Sri Lanka and had right lower end of tibia fracture. before going to operation table I took Arnica. I did not take any analgesic and antiinflammatory medication. I could realized that after taking Arnica there was gush of energy flowing along the body and probably it restore the energy channel which reduces pain and helps healing. Symphytum is normally prescribed for bone healing but I did not experience same energy flow like Arnica.
I have used it for severe cases of head and spinal cord injury, where it is very difficult to assess the effect due to severe disruption of tissue and energy flow.

Sanguinaria in Cluster headache

Cluster headache is severe episodic unilateral headache for 15min to few hours. It starts so sudden and reaches peak that there is no time for medication to act. Preventive medication is still the best way to control it.
I keep on trying homeopathic medication whenever I feel it may work. Last month I saw three cases of cluster headache. Last case came back thanking me that Sanguinaria has worked like magic. His headache has gone after first dose. He was male of 30s, headache was severe but at any time of the day on the right side of the head, no medication was working. This was his first episode.
Following are the indications of Sanguinaria:

Sanguinaria: headaches on the right side. Starts in the back of the head and travels upwards to settle over the right eye. Sometimes with a flush of the face, redness of cheeks. These headaches often appear in a regularly timed pattern and are worsened by motion, light, odors and noise
Other Remedies used to treat headache are

1.Arnica treats headaches related to physical injuries.
2.Belladonna is used to treat throbbing, stabbing headache pain that comes on suddenly and which is made worse by exposure to noise and light.
3.Byronia is used to treat steady pain that begins in the forehead then radiates to the back of the head. The pain worsens when the patient moves or is touched lightly. These headaches may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
4.Gelsemium treats heavy, dull pain that begins in the back of the head and extends like a constricting band around the entire head. The headache is often accompanied by blurred vision, light-headedness or dizziness.
5.Ignatia treats headaches where the individual feels as if a spike is being driven into his or her skull. This type of headache is often brought on by grief, depression or anxiety.
6.Iris versicolor treats intense migraine headaches that occur only on one side of the head and are often accompanied by visual distortions or hallucinations.
7.Kali bichromicum — for aching and pressing pains on the forehead (particularly between and behind the eyes); may be accompanied by sinus congestion or nausea and vomiting; this remedy is most appropriate for individuals who prefer to lie down in a dark room and who experience relief from warmth and eating.
8.Lachesis treats headaches on the left side of the head that are worse in the morning, when the individual is exposed to sunlight, and before menstruation.
9.Natrum muriaticum — one of the most common remedies used for migraine headaches, particularly those that are described as "hammers beating the head;" pain is relieved when the individual is lying down, alone, in a quiet dark room; these migraines may be associated with either menstruation or a grieving experience and are worse in the middle of the day; this remedy is most appropriate for children who look pale and feel nauseated, nervous, and emotional.
10.Nux vomica treats headaches associated with excesses in food, alcohol, work or anger. Nausea, vomiting, dizziness and tension usually accompany these headaches.
11.Pulsatilla treats headaches where the pain is concentrated in the forehead. Often eating fatty foods brings on these headaches.
12.Sepia — for migraines that are accompanied by nausea and are relieved when the individual is lying down; light and movement tend to worsen symptoms; this remedy is most appropriate for individuals who are moody and don't like being alone, but worry about being with others.
13.Silicea treats headaches triggered by hormones, particularly sex hormones.
14.Spigella treats headaches associated with sinus pain.

Unusual Visual Migraine aura without headache

40year old female came with progressing episodic increasing loss of vision with drooping of eyelid started 5 years ago with increasing duration from 5min to 4 hours last time two weeks ago. There is no headache following headache.
MRI brain, carotid Doppler were normal.
She was started on long acting beta blocker.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

ANP 36y/f came from US for second opinion regarding right ring finger nubmenss and neck pain since 5 years. She met with a car accident 14 years back, neck pain started since then. After 12 miles walk she developed syncope and right eye redness and since then gets numbness over the right chin when she is stressed.
Examination showed paracervical tenderness, most significant was Adson's test positive on right side never detected before. Carotids were normal.
Her MR cervical spine showed few disc prolapse most significant was at C5-6 which cannot explain her ring finger numbness.
Symptom increases during anxiety, and she was also labeled fibromyalgia.
Asked for vascular surgical advice and doppler of carotid and brachial vessels with neck x ray.
